Diane Wespiser commented on Sara Aoyama's photoHello all -- I plan to step down from my two year stint as founder and administrator of our little group as of July 1, 2012.
So, if people want this to continue, or to change it into something else, someone needs to step forward! The duties are as light or heavy as you wish; administering the website is minimal work, but it does cost me about $36/year for the host service. I do not plan to pay for the hosting after July 1 so the site (and the ability to send emails to members) will disappear after I stop paying unless someone takes it over.
While many people use our Facebook page (that needs a new admin as well), many don't, so any chapter probably needs need both. The National MQG migrated over to Big Tent from ning a while ago, but I did not. I won't really be able to help with any of that stuff, sorry.
MQG at the movies -- Indie Quilt-Doc "Stitched" Coming to Florence
Our next 2012 meeting will be on Sunday, June 24th at 1 pm, at Wool & Dye Works in Florence. We will watch the quilting documentary "Stitched," which follows three top art quilters as they race to meet the entry deadline for the biggest American show of the year. Then we'll share projects and quilt info as usual.
Jeff Rutherford has very kindly offered his A/V setup with a screen, member Timna Tarr is bringing (or loaning) the movie, and W&D Works owner Diane Welter once again came through for us by loaning us her cozy and colorful space . Thank you a million times over, Jeff, Timna and Diane.
Wool & Dye Works is at 52 Main Street, Florence (Route 9).
Old Meeting Notes from February 2012
Meeting notes: we had a nice turnout of 10 folks (including several all the way from the Berkshires and Connecticut) and enjoyed sharing projects, ideas, books and web information.
Elaine Huffman, Certified Zentangle Teacher, donated a one-hour Zentangle lesson,
which everyone really seemed to enjoy. It's a lot of fun and indeed meditative. Pix to follow of our individual drawings!
We're now discussing having a show. Not a big juried guild type thing, more of an art gallery "art of the modern quilt" event. I'll begin scouting around for venues. Please let me know if you are aware of gallery space that you think would welcome a show by our group.
Most shows are thematic so that's another requirement -- a THEME. One possibility is From Image to Art. Maggie Brigham brought a photo of machines in a laundromat that inspired her to create a collaged piece of circles within squares -- there you go.
See this website to find out how to submit your work for the juried show. The deadline is in October, 2012. The pulldown menu at the top of the QuiltCon website has one category called Quilt Show. That's where to go for entry info.
